Saltire Books was founded in 2007 by Steven and Lee Kayne, a father and son team from Glasgow, Scotland, with the aim of establishing an independent publishing company to serve the professional healthcare and complementary medicine community.
In 2014, the Riverclyde Books imprint was established to encourage new authors in other exciting fields and an agreement was made with the British Homeopathic Association to exclusively licence and reprint their titles.
Steven Kayne has practised as a pharmacist with a special interest in homeopathy since founding Freeman's Homeopathic Pharmacy. in Glasgow, Scotland in 1971. He is currently Honorary Lecturer in CAM at the University of Strathclyde and Honorary Consultant Pharmacist at Glasgow Homeopathic Hospital. Steven has also served on a number of UK Government Advisory Bodies, and has acted as an advisor to the WHO Collaborating Centre for Traditional Medicine. He lectures on CAM topics to healthcare professionals and students around the world and has authored/edited 11 books.
Lee Kayne graduated in Pharmacy from the University of Aston and worked at the Royal London Hospital for his pre-registration year. A PhD in Molecular Biology at the University of Nottingham was followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard Medical School, before returning to Glasgow in 1999, taking over from Steven as chief pharmacist at Freeman's. Lee is a Trustee of the Scottish Homeopathic Research & Educational Trust (SHRET) and is involved with pharmacy education in both homeopathy and orthodox practice as an Honorary Lecturer at the University of Strathclyde, Pharmacy Education co-ordinator for the European Committee for Homeopathy and former Pharmacy Dean of the UK Faculty of Homeopathy. He lectures widely, has contributed to a number of textbooks and is the co-author of The Homeopathic Prescribing Pocket Companion (Pharmaceutical Press, 2007).
